  • Socialists claim that they don’t moralize

I find it interesting that socialists claim that they don’t moralize.  An example is this rant against the hypocrisy of the Republicans (who I think are corrupt) which says:

The difference is, Democrats don’t sanctimoniously lecture everyone else from the bully pulpit about ethics. About what’s moral. About what constitutes “acceptable” family values. About how to live your life. About right and wrong. Good vs. evil. That’s what Republicans do.

Hogwash.   Both Republicans and Democrats have been telling people how to live their lives for a long time.  Bill Clinton had no problem ordering U.S. troops to wear uniforms that they were not legally required to wear (see this page about Specialist Michael New), but then again I guess telling someone that they have to do something that they find abhorrent isn’t telling them how to live their lives.  Yeah right.  Go to jail or do what we say isn’t making a moral statement.

Let’s face it both parties say one thing and do another.  While Democrats were elected to end the war in Iraq, they did nothing, but it’s not their fault, it’s always someone else’s fault.  It’s like being in a business where you have a thousand people who want to take credit for your success and no one wants to take responsibility for failure.

Now of course, the microscope is turned up on Palin’s life (not Obama’s though) because so many people want McCain to lose (I do too, but I foolishly believe in fairness).

What they are really scared of is the big Democratic donors rushing to support McCain.  For instance Newsweek has video of an interview with a big democratic player who campaigned with the Clinton family who has jumped over to the McCain campaign.  This is the big fear, that McCain might actually win, and as much as some people might claim to dislike Obama they really don’t like McCain.

Maybe it’s because some feel that Obama will do a better job of protecting Israel than McCain.  Who cares about protecting Israel, what we need is a president who will protect America.  And frankly I don’t think that either one is really going to do that.

For all the focus on Sarah Palin, it’s unlikely that she will actually become president, but even if she does, she probably can’t do worse than the current batch of idiots (not that the previous batch was any better).

Democrats like to claim that Bill Clinton “fixed” the economy but the reality is that both parties have been bleeding this country dry, sucking the blood from the bones of the corpse that was once the working middle class.  Both parties continually raise taxes, and both parties introduce more regulations, the only difference is in their cheering sections.

While there are people who are quick to point out that Sarah Palin hasn’t been a puppet of McCain, and claim that McCain should have picked someone who agreed with him all the time, and then say (in the next breath even) that Sarah Palin will do whatever McCain tells her to (really I heard Senator Amy Klobuchar say something along these lines).

Elections seem to make people insane.  People run around (me included) passionately trying to convince people that really don’t care to vote for “our” candidate hoping that the mass of people who can’t even take the time to read the constitution, can figure out who is the best person for complicated jobs.  Each side trades barbs with the other about the hypocrisy that they both exhibit from time to time, and each side then cries foul when they get caught.

There was a reason why the offices of United States Senator and even President were largely decided by the state legislatures (see Article II, Clause 2, U.S. Constitution).  Of course now there is all this talk about “democracy” but little thought is given to constitutional limitations, and as such many would be despots want to be king president.

Rather than having state elected officials who we could hold accountable we now have “a multitude of New Offices”, and “swarms of Officers to harass our people and eat out their substance” (see United States Declaration of Independence).  No one in government is really accountable, and most people seem to just be willing to accept this “status quo”.  I don’t know what can be done, all I can do is try to engage people’s brains, and that is challenging enough at times.
