Will the real Wikipedia please stand up?
No CommentsAccording to the The Register, Wikipedia has a sort of war going on against Judd Bagley who has a site called AntiSocialMedia.net, apparently Mr. Bagley has been downloading the Wiki database to track changes that were done using something called Oversight, which according to Mr. Bagley is:
Oversight: the Nuclear Option
On June 25, 2006, Wikipedia introduced a tool known as “Oversight,” which made it possible to permanently delete edits while leaving no record of having done so.Apparently Mr. Bagley feels that SlimVirgin and JayG worked together with permission from Mr. Wales (founder of Wikipedia) who is quoted as saying(from the Register article):
“Durova [has] my full support here. No nonsense, zero tolerance, shoot on sight,” Wales wrote on the site. “No kidding, this has gone on long enough.”
To suppress information about Naked short selling, in particular, though that is just Mr. Bagley’s complaint. There are claims that Wikipedia has been taken over by people (like SlimVirgin) who have close ties to intelligence (which is why they are able to on Wikipedia all the time).
This doesn’t mean that Wikipedia isn’t a decent source of knowledge, just that it’s a tainted well.
Which doesn’t make it all that different from the rest of the net when you think about it.
